Commercials That Annoy Me
I'm not easily annoyed but when I am I like to rant about it. On TV they are currently showing a McDonalds commercial where a young man sets up to play his cello in what looks to be an airport. He sets out a tip tray for people to leave money in. He runs his bow across the cello and gets ready to play when someone drops a toonie (the two dollar Canadian coin) onto his tray. He then proceeds to put his cello back into its case and gets up to walk away. I am not annoyed by that part of the commercial. What I am annoyed with is the next screen which advertises that you can go to McDonalds and buy a Big Mac and small fries for 2 dollars. If you look close enough you notice that in small print it says "+ Tax". Now in Canada our taxes are split up into two seperate taxes. The Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the Provincal Sales Tax (PST). The GST is 7% and the PST for Ontario is 8%. Now all food sales are subjected to the PST so to get your 2 dollar Big Mac and Fries you would actually have to pay $2.16.
That is what annoys me about the commercial. Sure he has 2 dollars. What about that 16 cents? Isn't he going to look like a fool when he tries to pay for his food? Arghhh!
This issue probably didn't deserve a post :)
Blue Goo
I was checking out one of the Yahoo searches that lead to my humble weblog and found out that there is a theoretical "Blue Goo" according to the Jargon Dictionary. If I understand correctly Blue Goo is good while Gray Goo is the bad guy. So I've come to the conclusion that Blue Goo probably wouldn't want to eat my mom. Gray Goo might though.
