Second Day of Spring Like Weather
As the title suggests today was the second day in a row of spring-like weather. I went for a long walk after school today and took lots of pictures. I know how much Nita likes to see other places so I will put have to sort through them and put a select few up. From what I understand the weather is suppose to get milder and milder. Maybe tomorrow I will get out my bike and go for a ride. Wise me luck. I don't want to break my wrist this year :)
Kids in the Hall Pictures
Here are the Kids in the Hall pictures I promised all of you. As I state in the Disclaimer they are blurry but you should be able to get the idea of what was happening. My handy helpful captions will hopefully make sure of that. Enjoy! :)
Sometimes....
Sometimes I think that I'm not running my life very well and then I think that I should leave my fate up to some arbitrary source. In particular I think I should let my horoscope run my life. The only problem is that I would have to pick a horoscope source. For example if I looked at my Yahoo Horoscope for today:
Your home could be fraught with tension today, dear Sagittarius, as members of your household are all likely to be under pressure with too much to do at once. There could be a few quarrels, but it's more likely that people will be too busy and thus emotions may smolder until everyone finishes what they have to do. It might be a good idea to spend much of your day elsewhere. In the evening: go to a movie!
From this horoscope I would have to make sure I stayed away from my house for as long as possible and then in the evening I should have went to see a movie. I did stay away from my house until about 6:30 pm (so that part of the horoscope came true) but I didn't see a movie, though I did buy Donnie Darko on DVD. Haven't watched it yet though. Today's horoscope was pretty lame. Screw that. I can control my own life!!!!
"Selective" Breeding
I've seen this topic talked about on other blogs but I just read an editorial about it. The story is that a lesbian couple wants to have a baby. Both of the parents are deaf so they wanted their child to be deaf as well so they selected donor sperm from a deaf man. It ended up that their "selective" breeding ended up producing exactly what they wants: a deaf baby boy. In the editorial the reason they wanted this is to make life in their family easier and less stressful. They don't see being deaf as a disability, but more as a culture.
I have no problem with deaf people. I don't personally know any but they are people to and shouldn't be looked down upon or considered incapable because they are hearing-impared but I think that this is disgusting. Why would someone want to force a disability onto a child. I realize that the parents don't consider it a disability but this child may not think the same way as the parents. I think this kind of behaviour is selfish on part of the parents. How do they know what is best for the child? This is almost as dumb as paraplegic parents hoping for a paraplegic offspring just so they homeless will be less "stressful". This is the second time these parents have "selectively" breed a child. They have a 5 year old daughter who is also deaf.
One final thought: I wonder if the parents have been deaf from birth, since I would imagine if you asked people, who had lost their hearing after birth, whether they would prefer to have their hearing back almost 100% of them would say yes.
What is your opinion on this?
