Friday Five - April 26. 2002
The Friday Five for this week:
1. What are your hobbies?
Reading. I do a lot of reading and playing computer games.
2. Do you collect anything? If so, what?
I collect almost anything that has to do with information :) As I've divulged before I have an extensive music collection, mostly CDs and records. I have a lot of books, that I have read and are on the to be read list. When I was younger I use to collect comic books but they just got so darn expensive. I also have a lot of video tapes and DVDs.
3. Is there a hobby you're interested in, but just don't have the time/money to do?
Can't really think of one. A part of me would like to become a pilot but I don't think that is going to happen.
4. Have you ever turned a hobby into a moneymaking opportunity?
My comic collection is aging and hopefully becoming more valuable. I don't think you can call it a hobby when it makes you money.
5. Besides web-related stuff (burbs, rings, etc.), what clubs do you belong to?
I'm not in any clubs. I use to be. I was a Beaver, a Cub and a Scout. I was in a club or two in high school. I never joined any in University. I didn't have the time. I would like to find a good club to join so I can meet new people.
Higher Resolution
Thanks to the ongoing efforts of Firda this blog can now be optimally viewed at 800x600 and 1024x768. For some reason my monitor resolution at home is 1152x864. Don't ask me why. I don't know why.
Oh yeah. Firda is still ironing out the multibrowser bugs. We know this looks good in IE 5.5 and IE 6. It looks acceptable in Opera (though it cuts off the latest entries title) and is a little screwed up in the latest version of Netscape (which I don't think anyone should use). I don't know about Mozilla yet. I will check tomorrow at school.
Tardy The Turtle
In the past 24 hours I've been hit by dozens of searches for everyone's favorite Greg the Bunny character "Tardy the Turtle". It appears that if you search for that particular phrase on Google I'm the only result. If you don't put it in parantheses I end up being the second result. I feel special.
I'm also way up the list for "aked-nay om-may" (in pig latin). I still don't understand why there are so many people looking for that.
Screw English
After writing the last entry and finding out that I still had errors after rereading and editing it I have to say "SCREW ENGLISH!!!!!". I'm going to start posting in Norwegian or Finnish!!! That way I won't be able to tell whether or not it's wrong and my readers won't think I'm an idiot. :)
On second thought I don't know either of those languages so I guess I will have to stick to English for the time being. Though I won't call it English anymore. I'll call it "Trenglish", which is "Troy English"!
Effort to Improve My English
I decided that I am going to make a conscious effort to improve the level of English on this weblog. Not to improve the writing style but focus on spelling and grammar. I will still occasionally use "but" and "and" at the start of sentences, even though I know it isn't right. I will still misuse commas and be confused about the proper use of "it's" and "its" and even about "too" and "to". I'm an Engineer. My English is far from perfect.
How do I plan on going about improving the English level on my dear old blog? Simple. I plan to read over my entries before hitting the "post" button. Ingenious isn't it?
