Search Results
I really shouldn't be complaining about since the search results that point people to my blog are actually normal now. No more "aked-nay om-may" (which I don't want to say since I will start getting them again). I actually got a lot of mother's day traffic on this site, which is better than people wanting to see their mothers in their birthday suits.
Now for my rant. I really think before a person is allowed to use a search engine they should have to go through a rigorous 5 day training session that explains to them how to search for stuff on the internet. They must realize that searching without quotation marks will usually misled them and send them to porn site pop-up hell!!!!
I like to pride myself in knowing how to find stuff on the Internet. At one of my co-op jobs we played this little game called "How Fast Can Troy Find Information On The Internet". The rules of the game were such: someone gets an idea about something they want to find on the 'net, they come to me and say "Hey Troy can you find (insert search required here) for me?" and I say "sure thing". The timer starts and off I go. If the information was on the internet I could usually find it within 5 or 10 minutes maximum but there is some stuff that can't be found on the net. I can't remember any specific searches that stumped me but there were some.
One of the major problems that people have is to know where to start your search. For instance, if I was looking up information about a movie that I would start at the Internet Movie Database which is quite extensive and usually very helpful. For music I usually start at CDNow.com which is a music selling website but can be used to determine tracklists, album chronology, production info etc. For everything else I tend to use Google.com since, in my experience, it is the best search engine out there. Thus ends my rant.
Long Long Weekend Coming Up
Sometimes it seems like I disappear on the weekends for no reason but I really do have reasons. I went home to my parents place again this weekend. A couple of friends who live, work and go to school in Windsor came home for the weekend. One of the pair is working for the Canadian Customs service (so she works with the U.S. - Canada border guards) and will be working weekends all summer so they won't have the chance to make it home very often.
It was a semi-eventful weekend. I spent a lot of time at the bar we hang out at when we are home and before everyone gets the idea that I went out to get drunk I didn't. I didn't even touch a drop of alcohol at the bar. I rarely ever do, which is okay with me. I can get along without drinking.
I also hit some "garage sale"s on Saturday. The local museum was holding a used book sale and I picked up a couple of gems. My crowning achievement was a copy of Animal Farm by George Orwell published in 1946, a year after the book was originally released. It is in really really good shape. I also picked up a bunch of excellent records at the garage sales I went to. I found In Through The Out Door by Led Zepplin and ABC by the Jackson 5, which I thought were excellent finds.
It also looks like it is going to be a short work week for me. Next weekend is the Victoria Day long weekend (also known as May 2-4, which celebrates the birthday of Queen Victoria and getting liquored up) so all Canadians get next Monday off. Traditionally this weekend is also the weekend people open up their cottages (or "camps" if you live north of Barrie). So I am going up to my cottage with my parents, brother and grandparents. It also looks like we might be going up Wednesday night meaning I'm going to have a five day weekend. Yipee!!!
