Words to Live By

Friday  •  03:04 PM  •  3 comments

I recieved this in an email from a friend today and thought I would share it. Many of you may have recieved it before but it's worth reading again. It's attributed to George Carlin.

HOW TO STAY YOUNG

1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctor worry about them. That is why you pay him/her.

2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.

3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever.. Never let the brain idle. " An idle mind is the devil's workshop." And the devil's name is Alzheimer's.

4. Enjoy the simple things.

5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.

6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.

7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.

8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9. Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, to the next county, to a foreign country, but NOT to where the guilt is.

10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER: Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Friday Five - Jan. 23rd, 2004

Another Friday Five since I've been such a deadbeat blogger:

At this moment, what is your favorite...

1. ...song?
Hmmm. Probably "Two-Headed Boy" by Neutral Milk Hotel.

2. ...food?
Well I have had a craving for breaded shrimp. It all started a couple of days ago when Firda showed me a picture of nice little breaded shrimps. Made he hungry. Too hungry!

3. ...tv show?
I don't really have a favorite show of the moment. Maybe in a couple of weeks it will be the new Survivor All-Stars but that doesn't start until Superbowl Sunday.

4. ...scent?
I don't think guys should have a favorite scent :) Actually I don't know if I have a favorite. I like stuff that smells nice but right now I can't think of any scent that is "my favorite".

5. ...quote?
Wasn't there a quote question last week? One quote that caught my eye is from last friend's answer to last weeks Friday Five. It's a Charles Schultz quote that goes "Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia". A very optimistic but kind of dark quote. I like it. :)
