Random Music Quiz

Saturday  •  08:42 AM  •  2 comments

A relatively long music quiz from Neil. If you're interested in music and/or my music preferences read away. I promise it will be kind of interesting. To keep the main page from being cluttered I've put the majority of the post in the extended entry section. Check it out.

1. Of all the bands/artists in your cd/record collection, which one do you own the most albums by?
I have 19 or 20 CDs attributated to the many variations of Mr. J.G. Thirwell (also known as Foetus, Scraping Foetus off the Wheel, Foetus Inc., Foetus Interuptus, Steroid Maximus etc.). In second place is a tie between Kronos Quartet, They Might Be Giants and Nine Inch Nails at 15 CDs each.

2. What was the last song you listened to?
Something by Gwen Stefani from a "rockumentary" on Muchmusic.

3. What’s in your record/cd player right now?
In my record player (of the vinyl variety) I have King Crimson's 1981 album "Discipline" [which surprisingly sounds a lot like something the Queens of the Stone Age do now]. In the ministereo CD system we currently have Sarah Harmer's new album "I Am A Mountain", which is fantastic in a bluegrassy kind of way. And in the car CD player I have a mixed MP3 CD.

4. What song would you say sums you up?
Too difficult. Can't do it.

5. What’s your favorite local band?
If by local you mean from Kitchener-Waterloo then I don't have a favorite band. If local means from Ontario then I would have to say that Hayden is my favorite local band (though it's only one guy). I also love Sarah Harmer (see above) and Sarah Slean, who are both from Ontario.

6. What was the last show you attended?
Sarah Slean and Jorane in March. It's been too long since I've been to a show.

7. What was the greatest show you’ve ever been to?
Kid Koala's Short Attention Span Theater. Any show where the audience gets to play bingo for prizes, listen to stories of manequin love (while the two Deejays cut up "The Girl is Mine" - Jacko's and McCartney's song) and watch animated videos that make you go "huh?" is a good show.

8. What’s the worst band you’ve ever seen in concert?
There was a Canadian band called Salmonblaster. They opened for two other Canadian bands: Stabbing Westward and I Mother Earth. Salmonblaster was horrible. The other bands were good, though my musical tastes have strayed away from that area of music.

9. What band do you love musically but hate the members of?
The better question would be what band do you hate musically but like the members. For that I'd probably say Rush. The band members seem cool enough but I have no love for their music.

10. What show are you looking forward to?
I'll know when it happens.

11. What is your favorite band shirt?
My favorite band shirt would have to be the only one I own, for the B.A. Baracus band. They are a quirky little local band who play covers with only a drum, a kazoo and a guitar.

12. What musician would you like to hang out with for a day?
Bjork. I've always wondered what she would be like outside of the "music world". In real life I guess.

13. What musician would you like to be in love with for a day?
Bjork again. She is so cute.

14. Metal question-Jeans and Leather vs. Cracker Jack clothes?
I have no idea what Cracker Jack clothes are.

15. Sabbath or solo Ozzy?
Sabbath. Paranoid was a great album.

16. Commodores or solo Lionel Ritchie?
Ummm, how about Lionel Ritchie's head on a pike? Or his body sawed into little peices? And while we are at it his stuck up little rich kid daugther Nicole can experience the same fate.

17. Punk rock, hip hop or heavy metal?
Hmmm. I think I prefer hip hop the most, but only by certain artists, like Blackalicious, DJ Shadow, Jurassic 5 etc. Though I'll listen to most genres.

18. Doesn’t Primus suck?
Nah. Les is cool.

19. Name 4 flawless albums:
In The Airplane Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel
Blazing Arrow by Blackalicious
Hour of Bewilderbeast by Badly Drawn Boy
You Were Here by Sarah Harmer

20. Did you know that filling out this survey makes you a music geek?
My 700+ CDs and hundreds of vinyl records already tipped me off on this. Thanks.

21. What was the greatest decade for music?
I'll concur with most people that the best decade was the 90's, while I also believe that it was amongst the worst since it brought along the rise of boy bands (even though NKoTB and Menudo were around in the 80's), the hideousness of Britney Spears, all of the Pearl Jam rip off bands.

22. How many music-related videos/dvds do you own?
Not sure. Probably half a dozen. Bjork, Hawksley Workman, They Might Be Giants, DJ Shadow.

23. Do you like Journey?
The 70's sucked! :)

24. Don’t try to pretend you don’t!
Whatever!

25. What is your favorite movie soundtrack?
I like most of the Garden State soundtrack, though I think the best soundtrack is the Natural Born Killers soundtrack. I don't like the whole album but when you listen to it feeds you visuals from movie.

26. What was your last musical “phase” before you wisened up?
Not sure. I don't think I've ever had phases!

27. What’s the crappiest CD/record/etc. you’ve ever bought?
Hmmmm. Too many to list from my high school years.

28. Do you prefer vinyl or CDs?
Both. I need a better sound system for both vinyl and CDs.

THE END.
